Straight Stairlifts
Straight stairlifts are usually the most affordable option because they use a standard rail along an uninterrupted flight of stairs. Pricing varies with the model, rail length, seat features, weight capacity, folding rail requirements and whether the unit is new or pre-owned.
A straight stairlift may suit stairs that run from one level to another without changing direction. The assessment also checks landing space and how the user will get on and off.

Curved Stairlifts
Curved stairlifts usually cost more because the rail must follow the staircase’s turns, bends or landings. Depending on the system, the rail may be custom-manufactured or assembled from modular sections configured for the stairs.
The number of turns, rail length, parking positions, available space and powered options affect the price. This requires more planning than a single straight flight.
Two separate straight lifts may sometimes be an alternative, but they require getting off and transferring at the landing. Suitability needs assessment; a lower equipment total does not establish that this arrangement will work for the user.
Used Stairlifts

Stairlift Rentals
Renting can make sense when a stairlift is needed temporarily, such as during recovery or for a visiting family member. It is not automatically cheaper than buying a used lift.
Compare the total rental cost for your expected hire period, including any separate setup, installation and removal charges. Confirm the billing period, minimum term, servicing arrangements and what happens if you need the lift longer.

Outdoor Stairlifts

An outdoor model must be appropriate for its location and exposure. Rail length, stair layout, weather-resistant features, power access and site preparation can affect the cost. An indoor lift should not be assumed suitable for exterior steps.
New vs Used vs Rental Stairlifts
Choose according to the staircase, the user's needs, your budget and how long the lift is likely to be needed.
