Straight Stairlifts
Straight stairlifts are designed for staircases that travel in one continuous direction without a bend or change in direction.
The Stairlift Store compares new, pre-owned and rental options from Bespoke, Acorn and Harmar. We measure the staircase, explain the suitable choices and provide a complete installed quote without pressuring you toward one brand or unnecessary features.
- New, pre-owned and rental options
- Lifetime warranty on the motor, gearbox and rail
- Free service calls during the first year
- More than 1,000 stairlifts installed across the GTA
Is a Straight Stairlift Right for Your Staircase?
A straight stairlift is normally suitable to explore when the staircase runs directly between two landings without turning or curving.
During an assessment, we check whether:
- The staircase runs in one continuous direction
- There is suitable space at the upper and lower landings
- The folded stairlift will leave enough walking space
- Nearby doors and hallways will remain accessible
- The rail can be positioned without obstructing a frequently used passage
- The person using the stairlift can sit down and leave the seat comfortably
A doorway near the bottom of the stairs does not automatically rule out a straight stairlift. A hinged or folding rail may keep the passage clear when the lift is not being used.
If the staircase bends, turns or travels around an intermediate landing, review our curved stairlift options.
If the stairs are outside, an outdoor-rated model is required. Learn more about outdoor stairlifts.
Choose a New, Pre-Owned or Rental Straight Stairlift
The right arrangement depends on how long the stairlift will be needed, the staircase measurements and the equipment currently available.
New Straight Stairlifts
A new stairlift may be appropriate when the lift will be used long term or when a particular seat, control or rail configuration is required.
New stairlifts supplied and installed by The Stairlift Store include a lifetime warranty on the motor, gearbox and rail, along with free service calls during the first year from installation.
Pre-Owned Straight Stairlifts
A pre-owned straight stairlift can provide a practical alternative when a compatible unit is available.
Every pre-owned stairlift supplied by The Stairlift Store is inspected and tested before resale. Parts such as batteries are replaced when necessary, and the lift is tested again before installation.
Availability changes, and the stairlift and rail still need to be matched to the staircase.

Straight Stairlift Rentals
Renting may be worth considering when the need is temporary or the expected length of use is uncertain.
The suitable rental depends on the staircase, available equipment, installation requirements and rental period. We can compare the complete rental arrangement with new and pre-owned purchase options.

Compare Straight Stairlift Models
The Stairlift Store regularly offers straight stairlifts from Bespoke, Acorn and Harmar. Model and rental availability can change.
We compare models according to the staircase, folded clearance, seat fit, controls, landing space and useful optional features.

Bespoke Synergy
The Bespoke Synergy may be worth comparing where a slim rail and compact folded design are important. Available configurations may include remote controls, a swivel seat and fold-away components.

Acorn 130
The Acorn 130 is designed for straight staircases. Manufacturer information lists a folding footrest, remote controls, battery operation and an optional hinged rail.
Harmar Straight Stairlifts
The Stairlift Store also regularly offers Harmar straight stairlifts. The exact model and configuration available will be confirmed during the assessment because availability changes.
What We Measure Before Recommending a Stairlift
A staircase can look straightforward while still having a landing, doorway or clearance issue that affects the recommendation. The assessment considers:
Staircase Dimensions
We measure the rail length and available stair width.
Folded Clearance
We check how much walking space will remain when the seat, arms and footrest are folded.
Landing Space
There must be suitable room to approach the seat, sit down and leave the stairlift at the destination landing.
Doors and Hallways
We check whether the rail or parked stairlift could interfere with a nearby doorway or passage.
Seat and Controls
Seat position, arm width, footrest placement and control style should suit the person who will use the lift.
Optional Features
We explain whether a powered swivel seat, powered footrest or folding rail would be useful. Not every staircase requires every option.
The purpose of the assessment is to identify the practical choices and explain the complete installed price. It does not commit you to buying.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a straight stairlift attach to the wall?
A straight stairlift is normally secured to the stair treads rather than the wall. The exact fixing arrangement depends on the selected model and staircase.
Can a straight stairlift be installed on either side of the stairs?
It may be possible to install the rail on either side. The correct side depends on nearby doors, landing space, available walking room, controls and where the person using the lift can comfortably sit down and leave the seat.
Can a straight stairlift fit on a narrow staircase?
Possibly. The assessment must check the available stair width, folded depth of the stairlift, knee clearance and space at the upper and lower landings before suitability can be confirmed.
Will a straight stairlift work during a power outage?
Many current straight stairlifts operate from rechargeable batteries and can continue working for a limited number of trips during a power interruption. Exact performance depends on the model, battery charge, battery condition and length of the staircase.
What if the staircase has a landing?
A landing at the top or bottom does not automatically require a curved stairlift. If the staircase changes direction or continues around an intermediate landing, it may require a curved rail or another professionally assessed configuration. Learn more about our curved stairlift options .
