Is a Straight Stairlift Right for Your Stairs?
The key question is whether the rail can follow one continuous flight without turning. A landing at the top or bottom does not automatically mean you need a curved stairlift. An intermediate landing, bend or change of direction requires a closer assessment of the route.

A nearby doorway does not automatically rule out a straight stairlift. A suitable folding, hinged or sliding rail option may help keep the passage clear, depending on the exact model and layout.

What We Check During Your Assessment
We assess the staircase and the person together, including:
- Stairs and rail: usable width, incline, rail length and where the lift will stop.
- Walking space: clearance with the chair folded and room for the seated user's knees and feet.
- Landings and doors: space to approach and leave the seat, plus any hallway or doorway obstruction.
- Seat and controls: seating position, footrest placement, capacity requirements and getting on and off at each landing.
- Useful options: whether a powered swivel, powered footrest or alternative rail arrangement on a suitable model would solve a specific problem.
You do not need to measure the staircase yourself. The assessment is free and does not commit you to buying.

For purchase planning in 2026, allow approximately CAD $2,000–$5,000+ installed for a straight stairlift. This broad range covers different models and conditions; it is not a quote for every new model or configuration.
The final price depends on new or pre-owned condition, rail length, seat and control options, any folding or sliding rail, and installation requirements. Your written quote explains the lift, rail, installation and selected options included for your home.

Assessment, Installation and Support
1. Assess the home. We measure the staircase and discuss the person using the lift, expected duration of use and useful features.
2. Compare options and the quote. We explain suitable available models and arrangements, with the installed price before you decide.
3. Install the stairlift. The rail is normally secured to the stair treads, rather than the wall. Most of our installations are completed within two hours, including demonstration time; the staircase, model and installation requirements can affect timing.
4. Demonstrate operation and provide support. We test the lift and explain the controls, charging, seat swivel and relevant folding or powered features. Contact our team if you need help afterward.

Straight Stairlift Questions
Does a straight stairlift attach to the wall?
It is normally secured to the stair treads rather than the wall. The exact fixing arrangement depends on the selected model and staircase.
Can it be installed on either side of the stairs?
It may be possible. We assess landing space, nearby doors, walking clearance, controls and where the person can get on and off before choosing the side.
Can a straight stairlift fit on narrow stairs?
Possibly, but stair width alone cannot confirm suitability. The assessment also checks folded depth, knee and foot clearance, the landings and room for other people using the stairs.
Will it work during a power outage?
A battery-powered stairlift can continue operating during an outage while its batteries have sufficient charge. Available trips depend on the model, battery condition, charge and staircase length. We explain the charging requirements of the selected lift.
What if my staircase has a landing?
A top or bottom landing does not automatically require a curved lift. If the rail needs to turn or continue around an intermediate landing, a curved stairlift or another assessed configuration may be needed.
