Compare Bruno Elan and Elite Stairlifts
The Elan is Bruno’s indoor straight stairlift. The Elite range includes separate straight and curved indoor models, with a higher published weight capacity.
This comparison describes current manufacturer models. It is not a stock list: older pre-owned units can differ in their controls, dimensions and options. We will need to confirm the exact model and configuration of any lift being considered.
| Bruno model | Staircase type | Current manufacturer capacity | Features to compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elan straight indoor | An uninterrupted straight flight | 300 lb (136 kg) | Straight rail; optional powered swivel seat, powered footrest and folding rail. Confirm which features are fitted to the used unit. |
| Elite straight indoor | An uninterrupted straight flight | 400 lb (181 kg) | Adjustable seating with optional powered features and larger seat or footrest options. Check the actual seat, controls and rail configuration. |
| Elite curved indoor | A route that turns or continues across a landing | 400 lb (181 kg) | A rail made for the staircase, with seating, powered features and parking options to assess for the route and user. |
Check the rated capacity on the actual pre-owned lift’s label and model documentation before choosing it.
Capacity is only part of the choice. Seat height, armrest spacing, footrest position, the ability to use the controls and the space available on the stairs also matter. If turning the seat or lifting the footrest would be difficult, ask which powered features are fitted to the particular lift.
The model names above link to Bruno’s Canadian product information. All three models shown are indoor stairlifts; exterior steps require equipment designed for outdoor use.
Will a Pre-Owned Bruno Fit Your Home?
A pre-owned stairlift needs to suit both the staircase and the person using it. A working chair, or a rail that looks similar to your stairs, does not establish that it can be installed in your home.
Before choosing a unit, check:
- The staircase route: whether the lift must travel along one straight flight or negotiate turns, bends or landings.
- Space for the rider: the narrowest usable stair width, seated knee and foot clearance, and room for other people to use the stairs. The folded chair width is only one measurement.
- Getting on and off: seat height, swivel operation, landing space and nearby doors. The parked lift and rail also need to work with the hallway.
- The exact equipment: model and serial number, approximate age, condition, fitted options and included charger, remotes and other components.
- Condition and ongoing support: inspection information, battery condition, controls, seat belt, swivel locks, charging requirements and the availability of parts for that model.
Can the Existing Rail Be Reused?
A compatible straight Bruno unit may be suitable for another staircase, but rail length, condition, mounting requirements and any replacement components need assessment. Do not assume that a rail that is too short can simply be extended.
A curved Bruno rail is made for a particular staircase. Even when the chair is in good condition, the original rail may not fit a different home. Ask what rail or other components would be needed and how they affect the installed price.
If you are considering a private or online purchase, confirm that a qualified installer will accept the unit and assess the installation before you pay. Buying the equipment does not guarantee that installation or a warranty is included.

How Much Does a Pre-Owned Bruno Stairlift Cost?
The installed cost depends on the exact lift, its condition and the work needed for your staircase. Rail requirements, seat and powered options, installation access and any additional work can change the total.
Ask for a written quote in Canadian dollars that identifies:
- The model, condition and fitted options of the lift being supplied.
- The rail and any replacement or additional components required.
- Professional installation, testing and a demonstration of the controls.
- Any additional work or removal of an existing lift, if needed.
- Applicable taxes, the total payable and the written warranty or service-call coverage.
A private-sale price for the chair alone cannot tell you the complete installed cost. Compare quotes covering the same staircase, equipment and work.
For broader budgeting, see our stairlift prices and installed-cost estimates. Those figures describe stairlift categories; a particular pre-owned Bruno needs its own quote.
What Warranty Applies to a Used Bruno Stairlift?
Pre-owned stairlifts supplied and installed by The Stairlift Store include lifetime coverage for the motor, gearbox and rail, plus free service calls during the first year after installation.
Ask for the written warranty for the specific lift and installation. It should make clear what is covered for other parts, batteries, labour and service visits after the first year, along with any exclusions.
Our dealer coverage is separate from Bruno’s manufacturer warranty. Do not assume that the original owner’s factory warranty transfers with a used lift. Confirm the coverage that applies to your purchase before deciding.
Read our stairlift warranty questions and ask us to explain the terms in your quote.
Compare the Right Stairlift for Your Home
Compare lifts that can serve the same staircase and user. Alongside weight capacity, consider seat and control fit, available powered features, usable stair space, equipment condition, parts support and the complete installed quote.
If a suitable pre-owned Bruno is unavailable, or another configuration better meets your needs, we can discuss other options. Explore Handicare stairlift models or compare stairlift brands before your assessment. The features and availability of the actual lift being offered matter more than a brand name alone.

Mark Glenney brings more than 30 years of experience with stairlifts to The Stairlift Store. We help families consider the staircase, the user’s needs and the available equipment before choosing a lift. You can also read our customer reviews for accounts of working with our team.
When you contact us, tell us your town and whether the stairs are straight or have turns or landings. Photos of the staircase, the top and bottom landings, and nearby doors can help the initial discussion. Let us know about any seat, footrest or control features that would make the lift easier for the intended user to operate.
We serve Hamilton and selected Southern Ontario communities. Check our service areas or call to confirm your address and current pre-owned Bruno availability. The assessment helps establish the fit and installation requirements before a final quote.
